Phishing survey shows .info is at lowest risk
On 13 May 2009, Afilias, a global provider of internet infrastructure services
announced the release of a global phishing survey by the Anti-Phishing Work
Group (APWG). It reveals that the .info generic top-level domain (gTLD) is the
safest from phishing attacks and that it had the lowest phishing rates and the
lowest average attack duration among the gTLDs. Phishing “success” is sensitive to the time the site is active.

Attack duration measures the amount of time a phishing site remains online - the longer one stays online, the more unsuspecting users may fall victim to criminals.
The survey was conducted during the second half of 2008. Phishing durations in .info were half the world average. It reports 56,959 phishing attacks on 30,454 unique domains in 170 top-level domains (TLDs). Greg Aaron, director of key account management and domain security at Afilias said “In January 2008, Afilias implemented a vigorous anti-phishing program working closely with .info registrars. We are pleased that the hard work of the .info anti-phishing team, and dedicated registrars have propelled .info on to the top spot for safety from phishing.”
