Applying to register a .org domain name

Any dot-net domain name you register has to be unique. A dot-org domain name can be registered only once and the first-come-first-served principle applies.

order now your .org domain name

Any person or organisation can apply to register a dot-org domain name, regardless of where they live or are based. However, if you are outside the Netherlands, you need to provide an address in the Netherlands, to which written correspondence relating to your registration may be addressed.

Check whether the name you have thought of is still available

To do this, you need to use the Who(Is) service on this website. On the homepage, you will see the option ‘Is the dot-NL domain name still available?’ Enter the .NL domain name you are interested in and click on ‘Check’. The ‘Is’ service will then tell you the status of the domain name. If the status is ‘Available’, it is available for you to register.

.org was one of the original top-level domains, established in January 1985, originally intended for use by organizations that did not meet the requirements for other gTLDs. The MITRE Corporation was the first group to register a .org domain with mitre.org in July 1985. Now anyone can register a .org domain. .org was the domain commonly recommended for use by individuals, although .name and .info are now alternatives.
