Applying to register a .net domain name

Any dot-net domain name you register has to be unique. A dot-net domain name can be registered only once and the first-come-first-served principle applies.

order now your .net domain name

Any person or organisation can apply to register a dot-NL domain name, regardless of where they live or are based. However, if you are outside the Netherlands, you need to provide an address in the Netherlands, to which written correspondence relating to your registration may be addressed.

Check whether the name you have thought of is still available

To do this, you need to use the Who(Is) service on this website. On the homepage, you will see the option ‘Is the dot-NL domain name still available?’ Enter the .NL domain name you are interested in and click on ‘Check’. The ‘Is’ service will then tell you the status of the domain name. If the status is ‘Available’, it is available for you to register.

.net is one of the original top-level domains (despite not being mentioned in RFC 920), created in January 1985. It was initially intended to be used only for the computers of network providers (such as Internet service providers). However, there are no formal restrictions on who can register a .net domain name. Therefore, while still popular with network operators, it is often treated as a second .com. It is currently the third most popular top-level domain, after .com and .de.
